Ratio of Media to Parts in mechanical finishing operations depends on the equipment used, the energy level in that equipment and, predominantly, on the nature of the work pieces and the end results desired. In vibratory finishing, for instance, type of metal, size, weight and contour of parts, all are determining factors. Extremes may range from no media at all on parts suitable for "self tumbling" to only a few pieces per load. Generally speaking, the ratio of media to work averages 4:1. Vendors or manufacturers of supplies and equipment usually employ specialists who will be available to advise and assist.
